Geotechnical Design Engineers
We have an exciting opportunity for a Geotechnical Design Engineer to join our growing Geo team.
We are also keen to be speaking to people of a vast range of grades, from Engineer to Associate level!
We are looking for talented engineers and designers who will be stimulated by working on complex projects such as data centres, ports & harbours, strategic land, logistics and distribution sites. We also work on more conventional residential high-rise developments and mixed-use schemes.
Our geotechnical design team advise on scoping of site investigations, interpretation of field data, production of geotechnical design report and construction phase support. A number of our forthcoming projects involve large scale earthworks, including surcharging, ground improvements and interactions with our remediation team. We also develop optioneering systems and promote viable alternatives to the standard approaches which includes challenging brownfield sites.
Geotechnics is one of our core disciplines at Hydrock, now Stantec. The division has remained very busy throughout the pandemic and with a growing order book, it’s time to invest in additional geotechnical colleagues.
What skills and attributes are we looking for?
- Geotechnical practitioners with substantial design experience gained in the UK.
- Strong understanding of soil mechanics and soil/structure interaction
- Significant geotechnical design experience including writing GDR and EWS (to CD622 and EC7).
- BEng, BSc or higher qualification in Geotechnical or Civil Engineering and Chartered Member of a relevant institution. Alternatively, a first degree in Geology with an Msc in Geotechnical Engineering or equivalent.
- Thorough understanding of ground investigation techniques and experience in specifying geotechnical testing (in-situ and laboratory) while interpreting results accurately.
- Experience in the specification and design of geotechnical structures (foundations, earthworks, ground improvement, slopes, embankments, gravity structures, nails, anchors, embedded walls etc).
- Experience in the design, supervision and verification of earthworks projects is highly desirable.
- A working knowledge of software tools such as Oasys Pile, Alp, PDisp, Adsec, ADC, Rocscience Slide, WALLAP, AutoCAD, and Excel. Some experience in the use of Plaxis 3D or other FE software would be desirable .
- Experienced in writing interpretive geotechnical reports.
- Self-motivated team player with good people skills.
