We have an excellent opportunity for an Highways Engineer to join our thriving Infrastructure and Environment division within our Almondsbury office. This is a fantastic opportunity for an engineer with 2 - 4 year’s experience looking for a supportive environment in which to further their career. 

Infrastructure and Environment Division

Our national I&E Division incorporates geotechnical, transport, highway design, water environment and air quality services and has offices throughout the UK.  The Highways team, whilst providing coverage nationally are located in our Bristol and Manchester offices, the highways work undertaken by the team is predominately in the residential and commercial sectors to support private developments and range from dealing with Local and County Councils to National Highways.

Overview of the role

You will be responsible for delivering technical support to the development of highway and general infrastructure projects. Working as part of a team within a growing multi-disciplinary consultancy, and operating across a variety of projects, you will undertake scheme development, preliminary and detailed designs and project coordination.

You will be expected to work in a design office environment but will also will play an active role in design and site meetings, site inspections and progress reporting. Good communication and effective liaison with clients, architects, contractors and regulatory/statutory authorities are therefore considered key attributes.

Requirements

  • Candidates with a BEng or higher technical qualification, or an HNC/HND with relevant knowledge gained in a design office environment are encouraged to apply
  • An ability to assist with the preparation of section 278 and 38 highway agreement schemes is required
  • The ability to use relevant software including Micro Drainage, AutoCAD, Civil 3D and/or PDS
  • Knowledge of the relevant design codes such as Design Manual for Roads & Bridges, Manual for Streets, Local Authority Design Guidance and are well versed in the preparation of drawings for contract documentation and technical approvals.
  • Awareness of the relevant legal processes, planning, design, technical consents process, adoption and contract procedures for the provision of SuDS, highways, drainage and utilities to new developments and how if, applied effectively, these skills combine to add value to a client’s development proposal
