Senior/Principal Structural Engineer
We are seeking an experienced and ambitious Senior/Principal Structural Engineer to join our highly regarded, award-winning Civil & Structural team in Bristol. This role offers the opportunity to lead and deliver exciting projects, supported by a talented team within a collaborative and people-focused culture.

You will join a multidisciplinary environment, with the opportunity to work alongside other successful divisions such as MEP, Nuclear and Smart Energy and Sustainability. Projects typically range from £10M-£50M in value across a diverse range of sectors including Education, Residential, Heritage, Healthcare, Commercial, Logistics and Distribution, and Defence.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Delivery:
- Lead the design and delivery of structural engineering projects, from concept and scheme design to detailed design, tender, and construction packages.
- Oversee the preparation of calculation packages for submission to Building Control and ensure compliance with relevant codes and standards.
- Provide technical oversight and review contributions from project engineers and technicians.
- Promote innovation in design while maintaining high-quality standards and adhering to Hydrock’s quality assurance processes.
Team Management:
- Manage and develop graduate engineers, engineers, and technicians within your team.
- Take ownership of resource planning, ensuring the efficient allocation of team capacity across projects.
- Contribute to divisional initiatives such as task groups and design innovation.
Client and Business Development:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, architects, and contractors.
- Support the preparation of fee proposals, bids, and ITTs.
- Participate in client networking and represent the team at industry events, with a focus on cultivating new opportunities.
What We’re Looking For
- Qualifications:
- MEng or BEng in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Chartered or Associate membership of IStructE/ICE (or actively working towards it).
- Experience and Skills:
- Proven experience in building structures design across various sectors.
- Proficiency in analysis, modelling, and hand calculations.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams on projects.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage clients and inspire team members.
- Personal Attributes:
