Our Team in Wales ended the week in style with two big wins at the Constructing Excellence Wales Awards, picking up a coveted Net Zero Award for Bay Technology Centre, and an Integration and Collaborative Working Award for YGG Tan-y-Lan.
Taking place on Friday 17th June, it marked a welcome return to face-to-face events for these awards, celebrating and highlighting the industry’s role in creating a built environment that’s fit for the future.
Our first win of the evening came from YGG Tan-y-Lan, a £9.9m, 420 pupil, new Welsh medium primary school, with a focus on Welsh language provision. The category win was Integration and Collaborative Working Award, demonstrating the close working relationship within the project team, to deliver the vision of the client, Swansea Council. Collaborating closely with main contractor Kier Construction and architects, Stride Treglown, we adopted a multi-disciplinary role, working from Stage 2 through to completion, initially working client-side and then novated to the main contractor, Kier Construction.
Our second win of the evening came from Bay Technology Centre, winning the Net Zero Award. With a clear mandate to go beyond net-zero, the Bay Technology Centre produces more energy than it consumes through digitally-led design and an innovative approach to renewable technologies. Proving a concept to deliver ‘a building as a power station’, Bay Technology Centre at Baglan Energy Park, Swansea is the first commercial facility in Wales to be energy positive in operation.
Acting as multi-disciplinary engineering designer, we collaborated with main contractor Morgan Sindall and IBI Architects to deliver this pathfinder project.
Celebrating Hydrock’s wins, Director, Andrew Haines commented:
“Bay Technology Centre and YGG Tan-y-Lan are projects that are typical of the type of work that’s helping to build a strong reputation for Hydrock in Wales. We’re at the forefront of conversations to help set the standard for Net Zero Carbon commercial and education developments in Wales. Many congratulations to the teams who have worked on these projects.”
