Ambitious plans for a mixed-use regeneration development for Cardiff Bay have been announced, and Hydrock is on the team to deliver early stage design.
The proposals for the Dolffin Quay scheme include hundreds of residential units including a 20-storey apartment block, promenade of new restaurants and shops – a total of 30,000 sq ft of commercial space – as well as improved pedestrianised public spaces.
Appointed by Associated British Ports (ABP), we are combining our structural engineering, building performance engineering, infrastructure and geotechnical expertise to help shape this major development on the three-acre site, providing pre-planning application support.
Our building performance engineering work includes acoustics, air quality and building services design. We are also providing geotechnical, flood defence and drainage advice in relation to an environmental impact assessment being developed in parallel to the planning application process.
Dan Beynon, Hydrock’s Technical Director of Building Performance Engineering, said: “We are delighted to team with ABP on this exciting and iconic development in Cardiff Bay. It will greatly enhance the area and continue the regeneration which surrounds the site.”
Martin Watkins, Technical Director of our Structures team in Cardiff added: “The development lies at the heart of Cardiff Bay and promises to be the defining ‘signature’ development for the regeneration of the old Port of Cardiff which has occurred over the last three decades.”
Public consultation exercises are being carried out with immediate residents, local interest groups and key stakeholders before any planning application is submitted.
ABP is aiming to work closely with the local community, including the trustees of the historic Norwegian Church which is in the centre of the public area of the site. It wants to ensure the development is in keeping with and complements the wider development of Cardiff Bay, providing a new high quality environment for residents and visitors.
