We’re celebrating – two projects we provided engineering services for won awards at the 2021 Michelmores Property Awards last night.
The Deaf Academy won the Project of the Year (over £5m) category and Wapping Wharf Living (Phase 2) was awarded Residential Project of the Year.
The new Deaf Academy, built on the site of a former educational facility in Exmouth, is made up of a mixture of purpose-built facilities and refurbished existing buildings to accommodate the education of 134 pupils and circa 200 associated teaching and support staff.
Working closely with project partners Midas Construction and architects Stride Treglown, our civil and structural team in Plymouth rose to the challenge of designing the buildings to reflect the specialist nature and particular needs of the students, which include learning difficulties, social and emotional needs, autistic spectrum disorders, mobility difficulties and visual impairment.
The judges commented on the team's ability to create an accessible and welcoming space with demanding user interpretations to create a building of merit.
Wapping Wharf Living (Phase 2), a new £43m urban village regeneration project on a historic Bristol city-centre site took home the Residential Project of the Year award.
Hydrock’s geo-technical, civil and structural, MEP and acoustics teams were engaged on the project by Wapping Wharf Beta LLP – a joint venture company formed by Umberslade and Muse Developments.
Our very own Alex Scott was on hand to receive the award alongside project partners Alec French Architects.
Hydrock’s Marketing Director Graham Munday said “We’re delighted to see these two fantastic projects recognised with deserving wins, reflecting the hard work of our talented project teams. Our people really do go the extra mile to collaborate with our clients and project partners to deliver engineering solutions which, most importantly, will undoubtedly benefit the communities we work in for many years to come.’’
The Michelmores Property Awards are now in their 19th year and continue to celebrate the very best construction and real estate projects taking place in the South West - from the most prestigious and exciting, to the truly innovative and daring. The Awards also play their part in raising awareness for the sector, and the skills and expertise of those who work within it.
Congratulations to all winning projects and partners involved.
