Our Cardiff team are celebrating four nominations at the Constructing Excellence Wales awards, following multiple nominations and the success of YGG Tan Y Lan and Bay Technology Centre at last year's awards. The winners are set to be announced on 16th of June 2023.
Conservation and Heritage
Plaza Port Talbot has been nominated on the Conservation and Heritage category. Working with BAM Construction, Neath Port Talbot Council, GWP Architecture and Asbri, our multidisciplinary team helped restore, refurbish and extend the Grade II listed art deco cinema.
The Plaza famously welcomed Richard Burton and Sir Anthony Hopkins in its hay day, and since its closure in 1999 had fallen into a state of disrepair. The project has saved the much-loved local icon, and is now the new home for Port Talbot's YMCA, providing much needed community facilities including a gym, offices, performance studios and a theatre.
Integration and Collaboration
Our work with Kier, ASL and Coleg Y Cymoedd on their Ystrad Mynach
campus is nominated in the Integration and Collaboration category. Our MEP, civils and structures, and fire safety teams have worked tirelessly on this challenging project, including three existing building refurbishments and large extension.
The project team are set to deliver new state-of-the-art spaces for catering, sports and vocational training including painting, plastering and other construction skills.
Building Project of the Year
Haverfordwest High School is nominated in both the Building Project of the Year and Integration and Collaboration categories. Our design team provided fire safety engineering and MEP design services for this new 1,500 pupil super school in West Wales.
The school will offer first-class learning facilities for pupils aged 11-16, plus a 250-place sixth form provision as part of the Welsh Government Sustainable Communities for Learning Programme.
Client of the Year
In addition to the above, Coleg Y Cymoedd have been nominated in the Client of the Year category, with our team working with them on their Sports Centre of Excellence in Nantgarw.
