Planning go-ahead for McLaren's student scheme on Myrtle Street, Liverpool
11th Mar 2024Green light for vibrant student hub in Liverpool! We proudly supported McLaren Property's exciting plans for a PBSA scheme on Myrtle Street, which Liverpool City Council has now approved.
Our role involved providing multidisciplinary engineering design consultancy to support the planning application for the proposed scheme, which is a sympathetic development neighbouring the University of Liverpool campus comprising 242 bedrooms.
Tom Gilman, regional managing director for McLaren Property, said:
“We’ve worked closely with Liverpool City Council to deliver a scheme that is sensitively designed and one which respects neighbouring heritage. The previous building had long since fallen into disrepair and ceased to do justice to the location. ”
The site was formerly home to the Ritz Roller Rink. McLaren Property is the third owner seeking to regenerate the site.
Designed by Cartwright Pickard Architects, our team has provided acoustics, air quality, civil and structural, fire safety, smart energy and sustainability, and transport consultancy to date.
Liverpool City Council’s planning committee approved McLaren’s development this morning, which has found a solution to the constraints of a sensitive gateway site between a conservation area and the knowledge district.
Danny Hope, our regional director in the north west, said:
“We're delighted to have supported McLaren's plans for the site and to see the scheme successfully secure planning approval. Regenerating a brownfield site, the building looks great, complements the surrounding aesthetic, will be very popular with the local student community, and will provide new jobs and boost the local economy. "It's been a pleasure to support McLaren Property once again, on the back of schemes in Yorkshire and the North East.”
The Myrtle Street development has been designed to support residents’ health and wellbeing, and is targeting BREEAM Excellent through a highly efficient building envelope and services.
We're providing civil and structural, geo-environmental, flood, fire, air quality and sustainability advice. Hydrock Fore are onboard as transport consultants.
The wider project team includes MB Heritage, Bowland Tree Consultancy, Colemans, Atelier Ten, GIA, and Met Geo-Environmental.
