Ben is a highly experienced chartered electrical engineer with extensive knowledge of the electricity generation, transmission and distribution sectors.
His previous experience includes techno-economic analysis of early-stage energy projects; capital project delivery within both the transmission and distribution network; network operations; smart grid innovation; and energy sector business development.
Ben is responsible for our 'behind the meter’ (microgrid) and eMobility service offering, and leads the delivery of complex, multi-disciplinary smart energy projects within our renewables and utilities team. He also leads electric vehicle (EV) projects that use our StratEV suite of software tools.
His role encompasses renewable energy, energy storage, eMobility, local energy systems (including microgrids), energy communities, data analytics and the Internet of Things (IoT). His approach to smart energy focuses on optimising commercial value through the use of tradeable assets; the creation of resilient power supplies; overcoming capacity constraints; and meeting decarbonisation goals through the deployment of renewable technologies. In addition, Ben leads the development of multi-party research and innovation projects funded by the likes of Horizon Europe and InnovateUK.
Ben was previously a Highly Specialised Senior Research Associate at Lucerne University of Applied Sciences in Switzerland. In this role, he focused on artificial intelligence and data-driven approaches to decarbonisation in energy systems. He continues to work in innovation through collaboration with universities in the UK and Europe.
In prior roles, he also worked extensively for Siemens, both on the NGET electricity capital programme and offshore wind capital projects, and for Electricity North West as a project engineer.
