Victoria Checkley

Victoria Checkley leads our civil and structural engineering services in the north west of England.

For over 28 years, Victoria has championed the integration of low-carbon solutions across the built environment. Her expertise lies in optimising structures for efficiency, exploring innovative materials like mass timber and carbon-cured concrete, and advocating for life cycle assessment (LCA) to be a standard practice in design.

Victoria is a firm believer that the construction industry has a significant role to play in tackling climate change. She is actively involved in the conversation surrounding adaptive re-use, digitalisation, embodied carbon and MMC, and featured in the Material Source podcast series exploring 42 roles across the built environment.

She has amassed a portfolio of projects that span commercial, retail, residential, secondary education, higher education, wastewater treatment works, industrial, leisure and refurbishment schemes across the UK.

Victoria’s career highlights include North Manchester General Hospital, Salford University’s Energy House 2.0, The Island — a net zero, BREEAM Excellent and WELL-enabled commercial newbuild development, and the acclaimed adaptive refurbishment of Manchester Metropolitan University’s Institute of Sport, which is an exceptionally ‘green’ building.

She is passionate about driving low carbon solutions, working collaboratively with the design team to deliver great projects on time and on budget.

Victoria studied at the University of Sheffield and is a Chartered Structural Engineer.
