Classic Georgian building transformed for 'pro-working'
With an emphasis on wellbeing, we delivered an innovative and stylish 'pro-working' space within a Georgian building in the heart of Bristol city centre.
Appointed by J4 Projects, we delivered structural, building services and geotechnical engineering design to transform a classic Georgian-style building into a collaborative business space known as Origin Workspace.
Origin Workspace is a total of 3,900 sq. m of stylish coworking space designed for professionals located in a prime position in Clifton, Bristol. It offers lounge membership, hot-desks, dedicated desks, cellular office space, meeting rooms and event space.
Billed as Bristol’s first space dedicated to ‘proworking’ with capacity for 400 members, it won Commercial Workspace of the Year at the 2019 Business Insider South West property awards.
Our structural design solutions delivered elements of wellbeing with the adaption of an existing lightwell to deliver a naturally ventilated building. To achieve this, an original courtyard has been internalised to draw in natural ventilation.
The scheme also involved a significant replacement of the façade to provide a neat MEP solution and allow ultimate flexibility in how the space will be used. With wellness a crucial part of the client’s criteria, with a wellness suite and gym included in the designs, our accredited WELL professional was also a member of the design team.
We worked with AHR architects as part of the design team against the backdrop of a fast-paced programme.
