Services strategy for £27m custom-built factory
MEP and environmental strategy for a custom-built 41,800 sq. m factory for Thorn Lighting in County Durham which includes an R&D and test facility and a lighting academy.
Our MEP team were appointed by GMI Construction on a £27m custom-built factory for Thorn Lighting, a global supplier of outdoor and indoor luminaires and integrated controls. Our brief was to specifically lead Thorn Lighting through the briefing and procurement process for the building services and environmental strategy.
The new facility includes a 20,900 sq. m production facility and an office building. This state-of-the-art site also includes a lighting academy, a BSI certified research, development and test facility, and a controlled, fully air-conditioned electronic control gear manufacturing facility for Tridonic ATCO, a subsidiary company of Thorn.
Our work included developing the brief, assessing services requirements, determining incoming services load requirements, preparing a technical performance specification for GMI to tender and managing the extensive commissioning process and closing out of defects.
The MEP services were installed in a nine-month fit-out period as part of a 20-month programme from initial briefing to completion.
